Hi, I’m Gemma.
I am a psychotherapist based in the beautiful town of Wivenhoe near Colchester in Essex.
My role as a psychotherapist is to create a safe and trusting relationship with my clients. I can help you make sense of and work through your difficulties and gain more enjoyment in life.
I consider myself an LGBTQ+ affirmative therapist.

You might feel worried a lot of the time or a sense of panic. You might be feeling low in mood, struggling with your motivation, feeling depressed, hopeless, having difficulties with your sleep, & appetite. You might have started withdrawing from others. Therapy can help you to understand what might be contributing to these difficulties & develop your coping strategies.

You might be self-critical & feel that you are not good enough. This might be holding you back from doing the things you want to do. You might have a negative view of your body & you might have developed eating difficulties in response. Therapy can enable you to explore these patterns & develop your self-esteem & confidence.

You might have been through difficult life experiences as a child or adult. You might have also been diagnosed with PTSD (post- traumatic stress disorder). Anxiety, being on 'high alert', low self-esteem, difficulties with relationships & trusting others, flashbacks & nightmares are common. You might cope by using alcohol or drugs, or self-harm. Therapy can help to process traumatic experiences, so that you feel less distressed.

Self-harm can be understood as a coping strategy or way of communicating our distress to others. Therapy can help understand the meaning of your self-harm, what feelings might be underlying it & develop alternative coping strategies.
